Got started on the oil processing plant.

Currently there is.....
  • 342500 crude oil storage
  • 14 Oil Cracking plants
  • 120000 Light Oil storage
  • 120000 Petroleum storage
  • 60000 Heavy Oil storage
And some space to increase storage of all cracked oils. Still need to start work on placement of all of the chemical plants and associated storage for the other liquids.

When on Earth would you ever need 120000 light oil?

I considered adding another 60K to each right off the bat, and possibly more tanks to the right since I have so much space...

I haven't built the chemical plants to start processing those oils to their respective products (solid fuel, plastic, sulfur, etc) so we'll see how that goes and gets used. On my main base/oil plant I use way more plastic than anything, so I have light oil being converted to petroleum and heavy to light. I've already setup those conversions and put logic cables on those pumps to only kick on if it's really low ( less than 20K of the 120K available). I also ran crude oil out to the wall surrounding the base with alternating laser and flame turrets for defense.

Why would you need 120000 of any fluid?

Does that mean I am doing something wrong if I have 2 million petroleum and 1 million crude stored up?

Having that much stored is nice! Considering you are doing it with 14 Plants id say you have enough to play for a year!
My expirience is that if i use many tanks and i have to drain them, either i need a madening ammount of pumps or the first tank is always empty and the 20thiest is nearly full and just started to drain slowly.
Think about rotating every 2nd row of tanks and add 3+ pumps pressuring liquids to the next row of tanks. From the last row you can then easy fill your factoydemands.

I might argue that USING a couple million units of fluid simply means that you're Factorio-ing correctly, but storing that much means that you need to start building something giant and needlessly complicated, and quickly.

Just adding an updated image. I've added many more chemical plants for the different needs, also more oil refineries for quicker processing. Plus pumps for each type of fluid tanker to fill up on.
