This is my first play-through of Factorio, and this is the production line setup that I came up with. I realise that it probably places strict constraints on how I can place the conveyor belts and assembling machines but I like how it looks and it works, even if its not the most efficient way to do it. I do have access to logistics robots but I'm not planning on using them extensively since it sort of takes the fun out of a massive and unruly belt system. Any improvements that don't require me to uproot the whole track would be nice to find out about. I would also like to know what direction I should be taking the my factory.

It's nice and organized, but you don't seem to be thinking about ratios much yet (important for making efficient layouts). The other issue I see is that your tidy layout is not amenable to being expanded without some non-trivial changes (not a scalable layout).
