The search for Lithia Water

Replaces resource spawning system, so that the distances between resources are much bigger. Railway is needed then.

The search for Lithia Water

I switched to the "rso radar" mod so that I could get some decent range. Having let them run for a while, I managed to find quite a few "pure water" spots. But no lithia spots. I've circled all the water in yellow for clarity. Every single one is pure water. From what I can tell, RSO puts equal weight on both pure and lithia water, yes? Either I've got phenomenally bad luck or I'm interpreting things incorrectly.

If Lithium wasn't so critical to progression, I wouldn't be as worried. But this is very strange.
Question: Do I need to start an actual NEW map for the changes to start showing up? I'm assuming not, since the procedural generation happens on the fly with the current code as new area is uncovered, right?

Please post me the map string or save/mods on the RSO forum.
There is a bug currently that might cause resources to not show up on minimap properly even if they are there.
You can check for that with map labels mod that will tag all ores with their names.
Okay, I tried the Map Labels mod and it definitely confirmed that no lithia water was present in my revealed area of the map.

The map string is...

Code: Select all

You have been extremely unlucky with rng in this save.
You can find some lithia water around those coordinates:
624,-1392
-1392,624
1648,1072
80,-1680
976,1744
-1712,112
1776,1872
-112,-1936

No way! Wow. So there's nothing amiss in the mods or anything? Do you think anything should be tweaked to increase the chance of spawning?

Question: What is the probability ratio of lithia water vs pure water? Is it 50/50? If so, that means there's a 1 in 128 chance that the first seven deposits would be pure water.

Also, how do I find specific coordinates like you listed?

Thanks for looking into this.

There is a debug mode toggle in config.lua file.
When enabled it prints all the resource probabilities to console at startup (lithia water is about 5% per region).

It will also store some debug information while generating ores that can be saved to log file with remote call saveLog. I used that to find lithia water by using runTest with 2kx2k area and then saving the log to see if lithia water was spawned.

Statistically chance for not having lithia water in that big area should be very small but it happened. It might mean that rng distribution is not perfect or that the way that new rng is created for every region is flawed a bit. I also noticed that it's a bit symetrical (visible in first 2 sets of coordinates) and I'll need to figure out how to change this to be more varied.
