Energy is more logical

Ideas that are too old (too many things have changed since) and ones which won't be implemented for certain reasons or if there are obviously better suggestions.

Energy is more logical

Post by Mr_SeBo »

TL;DR
When you ran out of power, everything just turns off, but that's not how it happens in the real world.
What?
So let's say you have a really long energy pole line to the iron deposit, with lights along the way. When your steam engine stops making electricity (For whatever reason) All electric appliances shut down at the exact same time. That's unrealistic, do to the fact that electricity doesn't travel that fast. So if you have that big energy pole line, the lamps will turn off in order (From closest to the generator to furthest)
Why ?
It will increase the realistic factor of this game, and plus it can somehow be used to make special circuits. It will also act as a kind of warning for a player that the generator is out! Go fill it up with coal before everything shuts down!

Thanks man, you make me laugh.
1.Unrealistic suggestion to increase realism.
2.Unneeded complexity to make gameplay worse.
3.Are you really hope to run ahead of electricity? You want to outrun not the burning speed, not the boiling speed, not the steam speed, not the turbine speed, but the electricity speed!

It is not going to happen.
- suggested solution would be in fact, less realistic
- performance impact
- realism is not primary concern

Therefore, the speed of electricity in a 12-gauge copper wire is 299,792,458 meters per second x 0.951 or 285,102,627 meters per second. This is about 280,000,000 meters per second.
So in Factorio, the electric charge would travel about 4,666,666 meters every tick,
So it would travel across the whole maximum map size there and back every tick.
