Nearly is not "exactly"... :(

True, but it does have a way to split lanes, which allows a lane swap without the excessively painful looking method on the wiki.

Userstory: Players wants advanced possibilities to handle belt lanes. The device-graphics should reveal it's internal function. Even more than the splitter yet.
Prerequisites: Clear.
Game-value: Questionable. Game value vs. complexity is very low.
Developer-costs: Implement new type of belt.
User-opinions: Indifferent. Tendency: Advanced players are against it, the newer players like it.

Edited: 15.04. Story added with graphics.

It is really nice to see how great the Factorio community is - but again I have to disappoint you - this is not what I am searching for either.

For me it is not only about the function anymore (which would be given with this belt mod you posted) but it's also about the "eyecandy".

I was thinking very long about the design for the "swapper" which would give a logical explanation for the items switching lanes.

I also made the 3D animation so the developers have it easier to implement the item if they like the idea (since they don't have to think of a design by themself).

Ah. So the device should reveal it's internal function. Even more than the splitter yet. Well, I updated that suggestionsummary....

Sorry ssilk, you got me wrong on this one :(
With "eyecandy" I meant that it is not jsut a belt with a different color where the items magically switch site - I meant that it has the box on top where you can see something moving.
I will update my animation today to its "final" form.

I think I have understood you correctly.

I try avoiding disappointment: I dunno, if it is worth the effort.
Because: The game value keeps very questionable; it's obvious: it doesn't change (anything is a too strong word, but really) nearly anything, if there is an eye-candy or not, or how the animation should look like. The function keeps the same.
:)

I honestly don't care :P It is my spare time I am wasting :D

Don't wonder why I haven't uploaded the new animation already, I am completly reworking the concept since the "old" swapper was too big (the turning part would have interfered with the belt next to it).

I can't estimate when i will have finished the new animation, but I will let you and the rest of the community know when it is finished. ;)

Kudos to Nic, that you don't give up with your idea. :) Like that implementation.... But I think I can say the chances are still low. ;)

But maybe your chances have been risen:

In light of all this information, we are considering changing the way splitter works. Possibly by making have an internal state per transport belt lane instead of per item. It will split each lane of each belt equally to the output.

I think we can safely move this to won’t implement. This will never come into vanilla.

And there are some kinds of lane-swappers as mods.
