Remote construction when off planet
Similar to how construction of space platforms is handled, the player should be able to do remote construction on Nauvis when off-planet (and vice versa).
After my first trip off-world, my home base on Nauvis was overrun by biters due to a breach in my perimeter. I wasn't able to do anything about it since I was offworld. This is very limiting for the player and can result in a game being lost due to no fault of their own. To solve this, the player should be able to do remote construction on a planet when not on it.

Re: Remote construction when off planet
Or, before leaving, build a roboport network with sufficient logistics capability to repair/rebuild...
Re: Remote construction when off planet
You can leave tanks (with one specific research) as controllable body doubles on planets.
Tanks have equipment grid now. AND (as of v2.0.20 which went Release recently) tanks don't need elaborate contraptions to refuel remotely.
Personal roboports are cheap. And priciest logi/construction robot components are needed for yellow science pack production anyway.
If you need this feature now - you can do it now.

Re: Remote construction when off planet
I don't have a construction roboport network on Nauvis, it isn't really required for my base.
Not sure how to remote pilot a tank, that isn't really clear in the game?
It would be much simpler to allow remote construction or alternatively, the ability to get back into space without a rocket from non-Nauvis planets. This would allow you to travel back home much more efficiently.

Hover your mouse cursor over the tank in Remote view, and press Enter.

You are talking about how it is required. The solution to your problem already exists. Construction bots from roboports are literally how the game allows remote construction.ArgleBargle wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 12:40 pm I don't have a construction roboport network on Nauvis, it isn't really required for my base.

Re: Remote construction when off planet
It would be inefficient and tedious to place construction roboports everywhere. It would be more efficient from a gameplay perspective to allow remote construction. Alternatively, they could make the initial drop pod when you land on a new planet a reusable rocket that allows you to return to your space platform and travel back to Nauvis.
The issue I'm trying to solve for is that going off Nauvis takes management of that base effectively out of your control, which is negative from a gameplay perspective.

Roboports/Spidertrons and construction bots are the intended mechanic for remote construction. That you think they’re inefficient is immaterial. The rest of the community functions just fine using them as intended.ArgleBargle wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 9:18 pm It would be inefficient and tedious to place construction roboports everywhere. They will not be adding space platform-like remote construction to nauvis, use the methods you’re given or don’t, it’s up to you.

You have to place roboports the same way you have to place power poles. It’s just a thing you have to do. But, if you dislike them so much, you could rush spidertrons and quickly decomission them. Back in 1.1, I had a large and spread out rail base that robots couldn’t efficiently navigate, so I used spidertrons for all building. It was pretty alright.ArgleBargle wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 9:18 pm It would be inefficient and tedious to place construction roboports everywhere. Re: Remote construction when off planet
Honestly, I think space platforms not needing robots is a bit OP.
I would've personally made it so you needed to supply it with robots...
(and maybe have the platform hub act like a roboport, but if your platform gets too big or you need more charging spots, you have to put roboports down).
I guess having flying things on a spare platform doesn't make much sense though (bots are made to fly through air.... how will they work in a vacuum? and when a platform moves, what will make the bots move with it?)
Space platformz don't make any sense anyway though... (somehow, making it wider makes it far slower than making it taller or heavy does...)

Re: Remote construction when off planet
I guess this is a reminder that most Factorio players aren't part of the community and don't take the same things for granted as we do.
(Most Factorio players also never get to try bots out. At least not since they were moved to also require blue science.)
This is not to say that their arguments make sense to make changes to Factorio now.
But I myself noticed that both building platforms was quite non-intuitive
(at least for an experienced Factorio player : have to learn how the new pipette function works),
and that it could be indeed quite annoying to build things on other planets, even when you have conbots
(annoying not necessarily meaning bad, this is also a balancing mechanic after all).
I'm about to try spidertrons for the first time, they're very late, even in SA.

Roboport networks or tanks with equipment grids are the solution. You’ve rejected both and so you get neither.ArgleBargle wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 9:18 pm It would be inefficient and tedious to place construction roboports everywhere. Moving to won’t implement.

A Roboport network is required for your Nauvis base when doing inter-planetary travel.ArgleBargle wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 12:40 pm I don't have a construction roboport network on Nauvis, it isn't really required for my base.
Alternatively, you could bring a rocket silo and rocket materials with you on your journey. Cargo bays are a thing, you know!
