[0.17.58] Blueprint Icons cannot be changed once in blueprint library

Post by kenmras »

I've looked through the forums some and have been putting off posting about this because I figured I wasn't the first to ask for this but I can't find anything. Please correct me or scold me as needed if I've missed the discussion.

The issue is that once a blueprint is placed into the blueprint library, you cannot change the icon for it (the "Choose icons" 4 symbols). It may be mostly QOL but seems like a bug to me because you can click on the 4 symbols and the sound registers but nothing happens.

(screenshot 1) I would expect the 4 boxes that I can pick to show up but I've tried all key combos and it doesn't seem to do anything.

If a blueprint is in inventory you can change the 4x icons and they are always visible.

You can change the name in both places but why not the icons?

Thanks and keep up the good work. I can't tell you how much I've appreciated this game!

You can also not edit the blueprint once it's in the library.
I'm quite sure this has been discussed before, but I do not remember what was the result of this discussion. It's quite annoying as you have to paste the blueprint, create a new one and fiddle with the new one, which is difficult for large blueprints.

Thankfully, this is not actually true! That works, and I did it until I discovered blissfully that you can instead do this:
  1. put a copy of the blueprint to modify in your inventory
  2. open it
  3. modify the icon to your hearts content!
  4. drop a copy back into the blueprint library, or a book inside it
  5. delete the previous version from the library
I actually found this out by way of wanting the export string for a blueprint - also absent at least for blueprints in books in the library - and noting that I could change the icons.

Still annoying, but less painful than having to recapture the placed blueprint.

Thanks, you're of course right and I curse my stupidity for not doing it this way before. Anyway, it is not solved in a nice way at the moment.
