Make the corpse smaller and more ground-colored

Post by thuejk »

I think every Factorio player knows about searching for your corpse, when you are not 100% sure where it is, to reclaim your expensive powerarmor and inventory. Frustrated pixelhunting for your corpse is clearly the best part of the game, central to the Factorio experience.

My suggestion is to make the course smaller and even more colored like the ground, to make this aspect of the game even more fun.

Under no circumstances should you implement something like the corpse marker mod into the base game, as this would remove this central part of the game, necessitating using my now free time for less interesting parts of the game like base building. That would be too easy.

Sweet suggestion.

Maybe the solution could be a combination of making the corpse smaller, like say 1 pixel square, and requiring a very expensive piece of equipment to find it.

Perhaps a pair of corpse-finder goggles, whose ingredients are 100 satellites. Per lens.

And maybe make the corpse only visible from map view, but only when zoomed in to the maximum.

Neat!

Don't forget to make corpse search mandatory. Otherwise players will just ignore it and pick spare items in the mall, bypassing the challenge and treating it as a logistics & production problem. That they certainly shouldn't.

Maybe we should lose the game if we can't find the corpse in time. Or it should carry a key item that we can't craft.

A key item...of course! The key item should be a key! The key to the factory! When you die, the whole factory shuts down, and you have to get the key from your corpse to start it back up! It's genius!

/sarcasm off
Just add button under minimap (or settings) to show corpse with arrow

Wait, but, now just hear me out...

What if, when you die, in addition to your actual corpse, you also spawn around ten or so decoy corpses at various randomized points nearby?

Y'know, just to make it a bit more of a challenge.

And what happens if you go to collect your corpse and accidentally select a decoy corpse instead?

Why, then you die again! And spawn another ten random corpses!

What do you say? Who's with me on this?

@Kyralessa

That is clearly the superior gameplay design. I am surprised they haven't implemented it already. That way you could spend even more time on this the best part of Factorio.

I think you are beating a dead horse here. The point was made.

It's definitely the right move to berate thuejk, because he's spamming all over the place.

I’m not “berating” anyone. Maybe I was a little blunt, but I didn’t intend to have an accusatory or rude tone.

OK, maybe "berate" was the wrong word (i'm not native speaker) and the post was overall a bit too sarcastic for an internet forum. :?
I didn't perceive your post as accusatory or rude, but a bit unnecessary...

Amateurs, the lot of you.

What should happen is biters make a nest on your corpse, and spawns 3 Behemoths that go off in different directions. One of them ate your corpse, and now you have to go hunt it down to get your stuff back.

What? Biters eat steel? :-)
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!
