The mission is to feed 50 copper plate + 50 gear.
The problem appear when you didn't fullfill both element at same time. The wreckage of assembly machine continue to eat either copper or gear as long that both part of the mission are not completed.
It's a waste of ressource, I see that very fast and I remove the belt of copper plate so now I didn't waste anymore ressource + start to stack for next mission.
New player will not have this reflex and will lose ressource.
