The Map Editor Should have Copy/Paste (Map Editor Blueprint Building)

Post by DjTeo »

I dont know if there is something similar, but I was thinking about making something like prefab or blueprint for building in the map editor, for example, when build a walls with turret and ammo (inside them), use something like copy paste (rotating maybe) of the build and use it like a blueprint in game.

Very vague... "don't know", "something similar", "something like something"... :)

I want to help. Just answer these questions:
Why? (e.g. why do you need this, what do you want to achieve?)
How? (e.g. how do you want to build so exact, that you can use the map view?)
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

I think I somehow answer your questions.
If I want to build a perimeter wall arround a base, why building it one by one and not using a blueprint, the tool is right there. It just need to be used in the map editor. I have used copy paste in other game's map editor and its awesome, dont you think?
It doesnt mean that the final build is exact the same, its easier to have a line with furnaces (inserters etc ), built by copy paste and then destroy some with the delete key so it seems like a destroyed base.

It's a very useful suggestion, no question.
In my eyes the map-editor and the normal game should be "one"; what I really want is, that I'm in the middle of a game and now I think: "Wooo, this is a cool map, I want to make a scenario out of that" and go into the map editor and change some stuff. Then save this and switch back to play.

I have seen map editors that you can test the map (run like in the game) right away but not the other way around. Nice idea. Maybe an easy implementation (in singleplayer) of what you are saying would be to have a shortcut button at the pause menu while in game to save current map and load it at the map editor (all in one click).

Guinness world records

Factorio - The only RTS in history where it's more difficult to build a base using the editor then it is in the main game, because there is not cut and past/blue prints in the editor.
