Make "Start Research" Button in green and with keybinding E

Post by dexteritas »

What ?
Make "Start Research" Button in the research menu in green and with keybinding E.

Why ?
This makes it possible to start the next level of a research using only the keyboard (with T and E).
In many other GUI dialogs, the confirmation buttons are already green and can be triggered with the E key. Therefore, it would be expected here that this also works.

Not sure, if I really would like this, because the research screen is more like the mod-configuration than the crafting-menu. :)
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Do you mean this mod-configuration under settings? It also has a green Button with keybinding E.

No, I mean the “mods”-screen you come into from the start-screen.

What I mean is, that - if you change the research-screen - you need also to change the mods-/ the new-game-/ and other screens…

See also this:

I’m sure there are more, but hard to find. IMHO it should be so, that the behavior of all the screens should be more or less similar/consistent.

I don't follow that logic. Why can't you change one screen without changing all others?
Also the topics you link talk about checkboxes which the tech screen doesn't have.

Hm. I thought the screens should follow similar workflow-design. There is for example in my understanding not much difference if I download/select a mod or if I research a technology. The checkbox in mods is similar to the technology selection in tech-screen. Both can be done with the same key, both can be navigated with the cursor keys, and so on.

Perhaps this idea is not really useful. 8-)

I am not sure if we are talking about the same research menu. So I added a screenshot to the original post just to be sure.
So I just tested this: In the mod menu, where the mods are selected by checkbox, I can navigate with arrow keys. But in the research menu in the game this does not work. So maybe we are talking about different GUIs?

But that's kinda the point of the post. To bring the research menu to the "new standard" of "green button + confirm with e". I agree that it's desirable to have similar designs. But I disagree with the absolute logic that you have to implement it for all screens at once - which is already not the case.

Yea, um. Same as above. What are you talking about? Technologies are added via double-click - a method not used anywhere else in the game. They are removed via red-cross buttons that are only visible after hovering - a method not used anywhere else in the game. There are no checkboxes and no arrow-key navigation. :?:

@dexterias we are speaking from the same. Perhaps I put too much ideas into it.

@eradicator yes, it’s just a stupid idea …
