Deconstruct landfill

Post by noclaf »

I agree that digging out land and replacing with water would be OP - but I strongly believe it should be possible to remove landfill.
WHY
Landfill is often placed in large bulks and it's easy to miss that you are covering spot intended to be a water source near power plant or refinery. The irreversibility of landfill is kind of an odd exception in the whole Factorio. It's also too easy to unintentionally connect bugged island to your mainland without noticing.
Of course - other solution would (kind of) be introduction of waterwell - but that might be considered OP as it would make players stops worrying about transportation or obtaining of water completely.

Tried to search for it (I swear! :D ) but was not able to find it - maybe too long ago to be on the first few pages of search results. :?:

Ok, its a bit hidden:
EDIT: This topic is a bit different:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=40442&hilit=landfill

EDIT: But starting with this post, it's the same idea, i think:

That’s not the same idea. And I like this one.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

I agree, that its a bit different to the first idea in the linked thread, so i also linked the other idea later in the same thread, which was recognized and merged as "equal".
EDIT: So, this is the second idea, which i think is the same as this one:
So, whats the difference? The research?

This is about land, that has been built with landfill and so it was formerly water. The other is about any land can become water. Which is a big difference.

Notice the distinction in this particular request, though: it's not looking for player-made water, it's looking for an undo button for player-made land.
Exactly
I don't see any difference. Seems to be a bit ambiguous, because Koub was also not sure in the particular thread.

Whatever, do what you think is correct. I'm at least not convinced (EDIT: that the idea is different)

I see a lot of possible gameplay value.

For example you can limit the maximum number of landfill - as item plus placed as land. And in a water world with only isles that is a complete game-change.

Ok, i feel like talking against a wall. :?
Maybe i'm just unable to express in an understandable manner, what my point is.
So, here a last try:

1) I think, the idea already existed starting with this post as part of a merged original topic "We can not dig out landfill"
viewtopic.php?p=312151#p312151
2) Notice the confusion of Koub here:
viewtopic.php?p=312160#p312160
viewtopic.php?p=312179#p312179

I also edited my former a posts a bit to get clearer

BTW: I think, the idea is good and should be implemented!

@jodokus31: the post you point to is part of a thread about “the other thing” (invert landfill = create water). So it could not be simply merged. Only linked, as you have done. :)

The point is, that we webmasters make hard effort to have this “one idea = one thread”, we try to order the threads by subject. If another thread contains similar ideas, it cannot be easily found. It works in this case, because you might have remembered it, but generally speaken: if it’s not in the first post of a thread, we might not be able to find it.

What I try to say is: if there is no extra thread about a suggestion it can be seen as non-existing.

So the best practice is: when a thread goes and a new idea comes into it, create a new thread.
Of course when I realize, that this is a new idea - which is not always the case, because there is no easy way to differentiate new ideas from variations of current - I try to point that out.

But there is a lot of luck involved into that.

PS: And it is not such a good idea to edit former posts. In this case better you wrote your edit in your latest post. Just for the case when you are in doubt again. :)

If you cannot deconstruct landfill, why does it say this?

mods -> no achievements (and another layer of complexity throug mod compatibility etc.)

So, is this idea still in limbo - not decided whether a good idea or not? :D

With the (apparent) introduction of flying enemies, it probably will be a feature in the expansion.

I was under the impression that the main problem with creation of water (landfill or not) is that it's a cheap indestructible defense mechanism. If enemies don't care, it should no longer apply.
