editor mode: manual rail deconstruction of mutliple rails (crossing / curve straight)

Post by tamanous »

Sry for the unhandy title. I've tried to catch future search terms.
edit
This behavior does only exist in the editor mode.
TL;DR
In editor mode: when rails cross, only delete one segment instead of all.
What ?
When deconstructing a highlighted rail segment, actually all segments on that location get deconstructed. In the shown example, the curved and the straight rail segments get deconstructed.
To deconstruct only the curved rail, one can easily select it with the mouse. However deconstructing ONLY the straight rail is impossible, same goes for crossings of pure straight or curved rail segments.

Why ?
It's truly a hassle to rebuild every unnecessary deconstructed rail segments, just because you want to replace one track. Of course, this occurs on very rare occasions, but when it occurs (let's imagine one redesigns its rail network) it occurs massivly.

+1

But which rail tile of the two highlighted should be deconstructed?

The straight rail, I'd say. If you want to remove the curved rail, you can point the cursor a bit off the straight rail.
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

+1 the box of the curved rail could also just be moved a little bit out of the way.

That's already how it works although because you're in the map editor deleting is instant and in tick 1: it deletes the straight fail, then tick 2: the curved rail.

Also just because: it is possible to delete only the straight rail:

You mined the wrong rail tile.
One more left at the end of the curve please.

Hmm what was it now?

Damn me. Thank you. Do you mind raising the minding time for rails in editor mode?

The entity editor doesn't "mine" things; it just deletes them. If you're in the "none" editor it will "mine" them and it has a time to mine stuff.
