nah, barrels are awesome. I remember when I first used them to mine a uranium field. good times

things don't necessarily have to be optimal to be fun.

heck, figuring out optimal approaches amongst all the gadgets is like 90% of the fun. at least for me. removing non optimal components just makes it less of an act of discovery.

also, I think barrels are an intermediate component of something

There, barrels are useful now.
Also, have a look at this discussion : viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91849. There are uses for barrels.

Barrels are useful in many cases! Removing a useful mechanic doesnt make the game better.

Yes, barrels are redundant, because there are already tiny science flasks.

We should get rid of barrels and put oil, lubricant, sulfuric acid, etc. in flasks. Instead of barreling and unbarreling, we can have flasking and unflasking!

The barrel mechanic is not redundant. Science flasks come out of nothing and vanish after use. Barrels are reusable containers, which offer interesting logistics challenges. Obviously not appreciated by everyone, but no need to remove it.

Plus, then you can fit more! Instead of 10-barrel stacks containing 50 fluid units, we could have 500-flask stacks containing 1 fluid unit each!

I can't believe I didn't think of this genius idea sooner!

Barrels have their uses. I've used them in sushi belts and in long defended beltways, where just a little fluid is needed to be moved and letting a few barrels hitch a ride on a shared belt was easier squeezing in new pipe and widening the walls.

They add flexibility. No reason to remove them at all.
