Your post "Friday Facts #69 - Sympathy for the creeper" suggests to me that Factorio could allow game play as either factory builder or planet defender: player gets to choose which side to play. Also big benefit for multiplayer.

This is factory management game. Biters are used only as means of player control and challenge factor.

Unless devs would come up with biological alternative for belts inserters and the like, playing as biters would be fundamentally against main gameplay. And even then it would be more worthwhile to have it as separate game and keep Factorio as is is right now.
