TL;DR
In game programming

What ?
I hope there is something similar to a combinator. It can input and output signals, and then click to open an editor to write a function in it, and output signals according to the function.
Why ?
It's a headache to realize complex programming through a series of combinator connections. If add a device that can run Lua language, it's simpler. There are many programming professionals playing factorio. It's better for them. It's also an enlightenment for people who can't program and have potential.

That does not fit the game. It would basically exposing the modding API for ingame use by the player. And we're not even talking UI problems here

It's also pretty bad for performance

Can be done with a mod though:

The „right“ Implementation of such a feature would be (in my eyes of course) to write programs via combinators and put such an automat into a box, so that it can be used like a combinator. I think it is possible to convert any program into a setup of combinators, like it is possible to replace software with hardware.
