When a hundred biter die in one spot, don't keep all hundred corpses. After about a dozen, you can't see any difference.
In the middle of this pile, the corpses are much deeper than the outside. But it all looks the same. Consider limiting the 'depth' of corpses to reduce the FPS hit of hundreds of corpses in one tiny spot.
Lag reduction, no real downside. You can't see more than the top dozen anyway.

I may be wrong, but I think GPUs are pretty good at displaying the same thing many times, so though it seems like there may be overhead with this, I think the GPU deals with it without much consequence.

I've yet to see any system lag from rendering corpses.
Especially considering they don't even render if not on screen.
