When I get a warning that I'm being attacked, I often can't tell where this happening because so many places look like every other place. Huge scarecrows could be used as landmarks to make areas more easily identifiable.
I'd like to be able to craft scarecrows like maybe a huge bird that eats insects on earth. Build these things and put them in your base and deter biters from a small area and also make that area unique. Other gigantic scarecrows can be anteaters, giant leg and boot and whatever comes to your imagination. You could also place a cloud machine that creates clouds of various colors. The clouds would be kind of thin. You can even make cloud poisonous to biters. In freshly explored areas you might want to put down cheaper landmarks that are easily and inexpensively crafted.

You could always mod it.

I find that a handful of gun turrets make a good deterrent.
