Feature request:

I'd like to set up a locomotive factory that places its output onto the track. (Obviously, I'll have automated refueling and cargo-cars, too. )

Basically, I'd like to set up a station "fresh trains" from which I can draw a new train to come to my distant location and begin running without having to jaunt back to town & back.

I really like that idea. Actually, I suggested it myself yesterday as part of a counter-suggestion in this post of mine.

This suggestion could be very useful if automatic coupling/decoupling were possible, for example as it is implemented in this mod. That way, it would be possible to automate the construction and assembling of whole trains.

Yes, when I mentioned cargo (or fluid) cars, I meant to imply with auto-coupling.

I hadn't thought about auto-de-coupling, but I can totally see how one might want to bring a car full of whatever resource, decouple, put the full car onto a spur track (with chugger-locomotives to move them out of the way), and replace => couple an empty car in its place.

This sounds ideal, plus I'd also like to see trains replaced if they are attacked & destroyed.

Shanemadden: that's pretty close, except I'm looking to get this feature request into "vanilla" Factorio.
