Auto place object when player over ghost placeholder

Post by basementjack »

TL;DR
Automatically "Plop down" any object in players inventory if the player walks over a tile with a ghost image of that object.

What ?
Simple really - in late game, we have construction robots.
Somewhere in factorio's development, it became possible to shift-click to "Ghost place" an object like a phone pole.
This leaves a ghost image on the screen, and when you walk over to it, you still have to place the phone pole "For real". Why not just have the player place it automatically if the player has it in inventory and walks over it?
Why ?
Saves the player time.
Would be a nice stopgap for players until they research and build sufficient construction robots.

+1, adding something along those lines is absolutely critical for player engagement

Mechanics may differ, e.i. I would prefer auto-placing items when I have mouse over a blueprint with button pressed. You know, like a brush in "MS Paint"

it would have to be something you have to turn on... it would make the game inplayable for some people who use ghosts to plan their base before the bot era.
