Request: Restore ability to mine a vehicle you're riding in

I know this is a small thing, but I always found it really fun to be able to roll up and disassemble your car, train, etc. as you arrived, and so did everyone I introduced to Factorio. As of 0.16.6 this was changed so we can no longer do that. The bug report that prompted the change wasn't even asking for this to be changed, just asking that you remain in the car if mining it failed because of a full inventory. (I nearly posted in the bug report forum, because the behavior doesn't match how the fix was described, but it's clear that this change couldn't have been an accident.)
Please, could you reconsider this change and instead solve the original bug report by not ejecting the player if the vehicle can't be picked up?
