Barrels as universal liquid containers/Barreling all fluids

Right now you can only ship crude oil in barrels. The other liquids require pipes. It would be sensible and useful to have the ability to ship any kind of liquid in barrels.

This would be great.

IIRC the "Extended transport mod" that allows this was in development but I've no idea if it's finished or if other mods already have this feature.

in my philosophy, the general flow for suggestions is:
1. suggestion
2. mod that implements it (if possible)
3. trunk (if devs agree)

so having a (finished?) mod that implements it would be very nice!

edit: found liquid station mod that implements it.

I'm sure this has been requested and discussed before but I'm damned if I can find other posts about it. If anybody can find some I'll add this to the frequently suggested ideas.

+1 to adding barrel recipes to all liquids.

This could also keep the temperature or the liquid, like heated water, but you'd have to have a special barrel that might use electricity to keep the water heated, or a train car that does the same.

If they did this the recipe page would be absolutely clogged with load and unload formulas. If this was done, I'd suggest either making "load barrel" and "unload barrel" one formula each and let the assembler decide based on what liquid it has available, or make a new machine for loading and unloading barrels instead of using an assembly machine. I don't know how easy that would be to code.

I know the counterargument to this particular idea in general is that it makes it too easy to integrate liquid ingredients into your factory, so there'd need to be a balancing factor to make sure that using barrels isn't always preferable to using a pipeline.

Allow barreling of all fluids

Why is only crude oil allowed to be barreled?

This seems like a simple addition, is there a specific reason why this is not in the game?

I second that.

Transporting barreled water to the middle of the desert for a steam power plant would be wonderfully pointless
