Blueprint UI more like filehandling

Post by zeec123 »

TL;DR
I would like to see a copy & paste approach with a file explorer UI for a better UX:
What ?
  • I would like to use ctrl+n (or ctrl+c) which allows me to select the area for a blueprint. After the selection, the blueprint should go a "clipboard"/buffer and my hands are free again.
  • ctrl+v should hand me the clipboard to place the ghost buildings.
  • ctrl+s allows me to save/edit the blueprint in the clipboard. This is the first time a dialog appears unlike the two controls before.
  • When pressing "b" it would be nice to have a directory listing (see attachment) where directories act as books (this would also enable a book in a book) with blueprints.
This could be even a real dir on the file system for easy backup/sharing.
  • I don't think it is necessary to have the blueprint in the player inventory. I can just press "b" and get the blueprint I want, use it, and then press "q" to get rid of it. This requires that the directory tree stays the same and does not collapse in between usages or it becomes annoying.
Why ?
I like blueprints but the UI is often in the way of getting work done.
