Lock state of belts and pipes so they don't turn or connect

Might I suggest the addition of a feature that allows you to lock the state of pipe and belts? By this I mean that 2 pips are connected and I can press "L" on them to ensure that no further modification can be done to them with the exception of deleting them. This makes it so building another pipe next to the locked ones won't connect them. The same would be done with belts. If I build a single belt facing east to west I can then lock it making it so if I run one into it from the north or south, it will not turn as if there was a run of 3 belts running east to west. I think something like this could add a lot of possibilities by saving space on underground pipe and extra belts.

Biters just shit on this locking and what should happen if a pipe or belt is destroyed now and waits now as ghost for rebuilding?
Too many logical gaps...

The ghost and its neighbors would need to remember which connections it had.

I think that this is a great idea! I hate routing pipes around each other.
