Hello,
Idea:
Implementing concept of containering (and palleting), which is, IRL, great improvement for logistics.

I´m not following. What does that mean, how would it work in this game?

https://mods.factorio.com/mods/AndrolGenhald/boxing-2
Adds boxes of wooden, steel and tungsten if bob's mods is found. Adds a large amount of item recipes to box from ores to circuits etc.

https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Nexela/compressor
This is advanced mod that comes with 7 tiers of technology, able to compress every existing and possibly mod-existing item, from ores to nightvision goggles. Needless to say it will be alot of new recipes added.

https://mods.factorio.com/mods/siikk/re ... ompression
The mod allows you to compress ores one-way; they will be ready materials on their own. Longer lasting coke coal, and compressed ores when smelted produce multiple plates.

https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Zaflis/OreCompress | https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Zaflis/PlateCompress
Adds recipes to compress and decompress ores/plates

[MOD 0.14.x] Storage Cubes (0.1.1) [WIP]
This mod boxes/unboxes items by 25 per cube. You can also use cubed fuel, ammo, modules and armor equipment directly, making most items way too overpowered, e.g. Productivity module 3 cube with +250% productivity, Portable Fusion reactor cube with 18MW, Laser defense cube that does 375 damage/s, ...

IMO That should be the next step for stack inserters. Stacking those items onto one belt tile. At least then it doesn't improve logistics bots

It seems like my suggestion was wrongly interpreted, so let me try again.
The idea is about moving boxes filled with stuff, eg. you fill a box with things (imagine at mining train station). Then, instead of unloading the box into train, you grab the entire box and shove it into the cargo wagon. When unloading, you once again do not unload the box, you just grab it (by special inserter or maybye crane), and unload it whole (for instance on special conveyor for boxes). Only once the box reach its destination (in this case furances), you unload the box where ever you like.
This is basically the idea about palleting.

Containering is can also be one level higher. You grab the entire top level of cargo wagon (leaving behind basically only wheels) and transport this to loading destination. You also have preffarably prepared container at the station already, which you load onto the container train.

In reality, this process is extremly efficient, and is used across ships, trains and trucks (so called intermodal containers), because you manipulate with entire loads of shipments, and types of containers include wide range of sizes (from boxes to large containers) and range of specializations, for instance liquids (barrels).

I also disagree with the idea that mode that stacs things in factories fullfills this role, because the idea is to load and unload things into containers seamlessly.

Added to viewtopic.php?f=80&t=19343 Boxing / Packaging / Container / Cargobox : Pre-Filling

And with 0.15 this idea is much better modable: You can create items, that contain any other lua-data.
