Laser Gun

I think it would be cool to match laser turrets, if there was a laser gun player weapon. Except instead of running on power you could craft some sort of battery-based ammo. And then there should be an upgrade tree to upgrade lasers in general. (Comprable to how bullet upgrades affect gun turrets and player weapons)

I know that theres a portable laser defense currently in game but to me it's never seemed particularly useful.

I just figured it would make sense for every turret to have a player weapon counterpart for every turret type. Plus a laser rifle would just be plain cool.

I think laser guns should be ammo free and drain power. The personal laser is kinda useless. This proper laser would take quite a bit of energy .. let's say 5mw per shot? And relatively slow working a bit like an ion Canon.its damage would be upgraded with laser turret damage. Like flamethrowers.. maybe bullet and bullet turret damage could also be merged?

Anyway. Just a few thoughts. But yeah let's say this gun can 2-hit enemy bases when fully upgraded and has laser turret range..

Yeah thats kind of what I was thinking. And to expand on the battery idea, maybe use the batteries you put into power suits and make them able to be charged in the power grid somewhere, making them usable independently of power armor. So it would be an ammo you dont have to re craft but charge in order to use.

You can play Bob's mods to extend your gameplay in multiple ways. They also offer laser rifle and craftable laser ammo.

The personal laser will be improved a lot in 0.15.

That is a personal laser defence module, not actually a handheld and controlled weapon.

Why do you think a laser should be hand-holded? That is quite dangerous. :) ;)

I think most hand held weapons are useless in the late game. I think something more powerful but hand held would be nice. And the same way you have lasers at the end and require energy but not bullets, the same could be done for a hand held laser gun. It would require an MK2 and a lot of power to make it useful. Maybe you would even have to carry a couple 2x2 laser-accus for the powerful laser to work. And the more accus the more power to the laser or more often it reloads (a bit like shields) but obviously the space you take for that you would have to reduce for shields/exos. You don't really need passive defenses at teh end honestly as you can just run away or spam laser turrets if you want..

Bit unrelated, but wish they did the same the opposite way with missile launcher. From hand-holded weapon to a missile turret.

At this point we really have to wait for 0.15 to discuss any combat changes. It will be very different.
