Shortly (to make less mistakes in English):
Let me put a marker on the map and have a direction indicator to that marker outside of the map.

Added to viewtopic.php?f=80&t=4682 Planning (Signs, Cloning, Ghosts, Blueprinting and more...)

Such an indicator can be used for other things, like "where is the next copper ore?".

I always thought it would be really cool to have some sort of radar that instead of scanning and revealing the map, would point in the direction of the nearest deposit of specified type.

You could then do a "blind" run with the map disabled, would require a lot more visualisation of what you're doing.
