Different pathfinding for rails

I suggest that when you are laying rails with the ghostmode or normal, you can change to an alternative Route, beacuse the pathfinding is often not that what you want, so by pressing for example Shift while laying the Rails it could search for another way to reach the Endpoint.
What do you think?!

Edit: it could switch between different aspects for finding the route no only the shortest route but more straight rails more diagonal rails.

The rail pathfinding always searches for the shortest route. How do you expect the computer to magically guess what it is you want it to do instead?
I mean, what IS it you want it to do instead?

The request here seems to be "enforce 90° turns with minimal radius".
I still lay tracks mostly manual or by blueprint as longer segments tend to use unwanted long diagonals.

As above, there's no way the computer can magically know what you want. Custom pathfinding is not exactly simple, even if it is something like throwing a higher weight on straight rails.

As a user, just blueprint everything complicated, blueprint your main track, and then you'll only use ghost mode for either pre-blueprint or some annoying lake/forest navigation.

The computer don't have to guess what you want but it could consider other aspects for the route like more straight more diagonal it could switch between some aspects by pressing shift.

Spinning the thought further a bit.
Add a a checklist in options where we can select which algorithms with predefined parameters like "minimize diagonals", shortest path", least crossings" we want to cycle through.
When cycling through algorithms show the currently selected on screen.

It's already possible to cycle through different paths by pressing R.

That just turns the end piece around.

Oh ok. TIL.

It works normally for me, by moving around or build in two steps. But, yes, that would be helpful, but not sure, if shift is really useful here, cause it is already used for auto-deconstruction if stuff "in the way".

It seems that the original poster double-posted and that this thread is a duplicate of the following thread:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41713

EDIT: This post is no longer relevant, since, in the mean time, a mod seems to have merged both threads into one.

Yeah I wrote the old article so poorly that I posted it again. But thanks for informing them

It seems that a mod has now merged both threads into one and now the whole thread is a complete mess. :) Therefore, you may want to edit your posts at the start of the thread, for example by removing one of your duplicate posts.

EDIT: I don't think it is possible to actually delete one of the posts. However, you can replace the text of one of the posts with the text "(removed)" or something like that.

Yes, please. Or just mark the to deleted posts somehow.
