player choices as replay value

Hi, this is quite a long shot but here is goes:

Sims game benefits, as my knowledge, quite a lot when it is possible to have changing gameplay depending on important decision. For example, a tech that cost quite a lot.

These kind of choice, made necessary by the cost of research here, give the player illusion of a much more broad spectrum of strategies and gameplay variation ultimately make the game replay worthy.

Maybe others can come with precise example of how this idea may be used.

Ultimately, the player can research 2-3 of those technology but only one is necessary to win the game.
