Add Train Routes (rework train)

Hi,
why make it adjustable per train? Why not just add "train lines" dont know the english name, sorry, and then add the trains to it...???

SO, instead of change every train settings, you can just change the "train line" and all trains know what to do.

Also please, rethink the whole train thing (signals, only go there if there is something waiting, only go there if something is needed), for me personal its too complicated atm. Its easier and faster to use robots or trains and seperate robotnetworks...

I also like the smart train thingy where you have to connect all stations and trains automatic know where to go, but its way too complicated for me at this moment...

I changed the topic, cause what you mean (in my opinion) is "routes".

Technically (also in my opinon) each train has currently a schedule. A route is nothing else, than a schedule, that works for all trains, that have the same route. If you change the schedule of a route all trains that are assigned to that route change their schedules.

To the rest: That is too unspecific. In my opinion it is just a matter of documentation/tutorial etc. That is like in similar games.

I think the mod smart trains does what i mean. But it should be added to vanilla bc like its atm it does not make sense.

Why should we want to add specific route per train when we also could use train lines? Easier, faster. You have to change train routes atleast every 1-2 hours, so its very frustatring.

Schedule: That's what we currently have: A list of stations which is handled by the train only, independent from other trains. BTW: You already can copy a schedule from one train to another.
Route / Train Line (That word was new for me): A schedule, unbound to a train. If you assign the a train to a route or line it behaves, as if you copy the schedule into each train. So if you change the schedule of a route all schedules of all assigned trains changes.

I think you don't need it really. More than 3 trains with the same route don't make sense; normally you only have up to 2 trains with the same route. Most trains do have individual routes. A button just to copy&paste the trains' schedules (and colouring) would be enough.

That already works, as I already wrote.
You can copy a schedule from train to train. The color is also copied. You can copy from wagon to wagon: The filter settings are copied. You can copy from assembly to a requester chest: The item-request are copied. And much more.

Yes train lines would be great.
Probably just add Smart Trains to vanilla.

Because you are normally making a providing station and a receiving station. If you really want a stable flow of items, a third train might run between the stations. The receiving/fabrication stations might have parallel stops to take the cargo of several trains, but if you make such a big scaled station at the same ore deposit, it would be depleted while you're building the station. Further, too many trains are interfering each other.

I do it like this:

Iron Base
and then i add a train per station
Iron 1
Iron 2
Iron 3

and all the trains start at base, then iron 1, then iron 2... probably not the most efficient, but it works.

The same as you would copy other entities:
Shift+Right click to set the source train, then Shift+Left click on the target train and the settings (schedule) will be copied from the source to the target train.
You can also copy-paste train stops to give them the same name.

For all key-commands you might plug tips&trick on and/or read in the keyboard-configuration-screen in game.
For further questions you might go to the gameplay-help forum. :)

This is your "foundry" ? Mine is taking iron ore and copper ore equally.

Iron 2
Iron 3

I do it similar - just to have the ores from #2 if #1 gets depleted in the mean time, but I never ran more than 2 trains over the same line, and if you have many ore stations, it's more efficent to have one line over #1 and #2 and one line over #3 and #4 than letting all trains run over all stations.

- And well, a "copy"/"paste" button in the train's UI might be fine though...

I have 1 Base (where the trains unload) and then per mine one train, but all trains visist all outposts.
