I think it would be cool if higher level biters could burrow under walls to get into a base. This would have to be balanced by having brick or concrete within your base walls to prevent burrowing, and enough turrets to kill them before they can reach your walls.

Tiberian Sun style.

I thought about it myself. The only problem here is that to cover your base in concrete is not as easy as it is in C&C. But the idea could be balanced. And, always inspired to C&C, your radar could give you an early warning about what's going to happen.
