I love automating things, and testing the throughput of my factories.

I was a bit sad I can't automate refineries or rocket defense (I know, I know).

Could the AM3 support more than 4 item slots for manufacturing?

I remember in the past the requirements for rocket defense were way beyond the stack limits of the required materials, so I couldn't do it then either :/

Just asking, why would you want to automate a rocket defense production?

A better question is -- why not?

There is no endgame need to do that, but it is a tremendous sink of resources, which I like to overproduce, so that's my main goal.

But as a side effect, if we're going to be making things take 5 or more items to create, then there should also be an assembler that can handle that quantity of items, and the stack sizes those items require.

Yes, but it still takes 5 items to craft, beyond the limitation of 4 item slots in AM2 & 3, and well beyond AM1...

My current end-game objective is also "how many rocket defence could be made per hour keeping 60fps?" .
I think overproducing/maxproducing is a very good self-made objectives in this game.

I used map editor and put nearly infinite copper and iron and oil , and no enemies,
then put over 1K mines and furnaces and thousands of asm machines and more.

Belt and logistic bots eat much CPU time so the point is not to use them.
To produce 300MW or more electricity, you can't use steam engine because
it requires many bots or belt to fuel.
Solar panel takes very little CPU time (solar panel can reach 10K or more)

over 10M alien artifacts is also put in chests.. I know my case is really special,
but it's very fun for me to optimize the factory in many forms..

^Same here, I just give those to myself. The whole "base defense" and RPG part of it is a bit lost to me... Doesn't add much to the game, so I usually just disable it.
