(I'm new to the forums and just wanted to say before I get started, I LOVE FACTORIO. I'm so freaking addicted. Damn it. )

Imagine a game where instead of being on a planet, you are the chief engineer on a space warship. Your job is to first design and then maintain all the machinery on a a starship that makes it function. But to throw a wrench into the works, you sometimes must deal with space combat. You have no idea what is going on outside but you are tasked with keeping the ship alive and keeping it combat functional.

Play points
  • Many types of ship systems (drives, weapons, life support, factory, science, labs, defenses, comms
Use engineers like robots that auto fix damage, other mundane tasks
Fix battle damage and re-route systems to bypass destroyed structure to maintain combat effectivness
    Maintain power, air, water, sewage
periodically visit space dock for refits, new tech
Design your ship, design affects robustness, combat effectiveness, efficiency
    Incorporate alien/advanced technology as it's found/salvaged
I would think that Factorio's existing framework would support the vast majority of these play points.
Thoughts?

My thought is this: I think this should be moved to modding suggestions.

My thought is this: The idea is interesting and space ships are cool but that's a completely different game than it's now (while surely within the variability range of the game). And it's equally unlikely that it'd get done within mod suggestions (anything that is not *.lua is really a bottleneck).
