Official IRC?

How is there not an official IRC for Factorio? Cookie Clicker has one! It would be quite awesome if the devs set up an official IRC channel, given available time as I am sure they are quite busy.

I apologize if this was brought up before. I believe I found a post about it but it didn't catch much attention at all and when I tried to join that channel no one was there.

while there is no official IRC (or any other chat besides the forum) that I know of, I did try going into the one mentioned here (#Factorio on espernet) a few times, I think there was only one time when anyone was in it so...
