I once was wishing for that too and found a simple but yet very practical approach. I hope this works on windows, too, and easens up things for you.

Open your file browser and navigate to your saves folder. Create a sub-folders. They are shown ingame and are sorted alphabetically above the saves in the main save folder.
Holy shit why did nobody tell me about this. How is the cloud saving in that case, does it still work?

This thread is about sorting savegames.
Yes, and autosaves should be sorted so they appear together with the world they belong to.

That looks like the suggestion I made in that other very related thread :

I'd also +1 on this topic. Example : the way KSP works : there are "games" in which there are saves.
When you start a game, you create a new game, and after that, all the saves are within that game.
On the disk, the game is a folder, and the saves are files within.

Bonus : In KSP, there are subfolders for ships and subassemblies, I'd see "blueprints" in Factorio. Every single blueprint could be saved that way in its own file within the game it has been created in..

@mrvn: gnaw :) right, it hangs together as Koub nicely pointed out, but you would not implement both at the same time.

(You would implement first either the “world”-concept or extend the load-requester with different sorting options. And then you would mix both changes together. You would not implement both features in the same development-branch. Well, ok, that goes a little bit too deep, I’m too deep in product-owner thinking… )

Sorting Saves By Most Recent

Currently, the only way to sort saves is alphabetical. It would be a nice feature if there was the ability to sort saves by the most recent saves.

sort saves by name/created date/last touched date

TL;DR
Similar filters used in MP game menu could be used to filter recent SP saves.

What ?
Instead of # players etc there could be Last played date, created date, hours played. Filters for mods like MP.
Why ?
WHY do you think it increases the value of Factorio as a game?

I have many different games going, depending on my mood. To be able to sort them by date instead of by name would be great.

I have different non-steam standalone installations per modpack. No mod mismatch possible here :)

sort directory options: by date, name, base

I searched the whole forum for "+sort +directory" in topics and was surprised to not find this suggestion already.

Please add to the GUI file picker the ability to sort the list of files by date, name, and maybe base-version.

The main Load game file-picker sorts default by name, which is great. It also knows how to navigate subfolders, which is also great. But it would be helpful to be able to pick how that list sorted, by name or by last-modified-date, and by base-version if not too hard.

Ideally the sort order would be selected on the same screen, but even if it was on Settings:Interface or Settings:Other it would be okay.

The same sorting request applies to the map editor's Edit scenario file-picker. I cannot figure out what order it is using, it seems to randomly shuffle after each new save. It doesn't support subfolders, which also would be nice to have.

Umm, yes. Fascinating that the search terms I chose managed to miss it entirely.
Thanks Koub for merging!

However, it looks like the request is pending since 2013 without even comment from the devs, so I'm guessing there is some deep technical reason why they are not considering the idea.

A button to sort the load game dialog by most recently played would be stellar.

Can we please have this? Please?

I mean, it's been a suggestion for 10 years and it's such a reasonable feature to have...
