I think there should be cranes used to build large structures like the rocket defense, would use resources to build the building over time.

Also, magma wells that can extract magma and provide extra metal later on.

I actually like the concept of getting metal from molten core of the planet. It's so badass I'd even make mod for that if I had skills and free time It's like much more fun version of underground resources that are appearing there from time to time.

There's the un-maintained mohole mod that does something similar for mining magma. You get lava that can be crystallized into iron or copper, with large amounts of waste rock.
