Pistol trouble

Imagine a hectic, biter heavy game, and you have a rocket launcher, machine gun and a flamethrower equipped, blazing at them peskies. Then you die!

In a hurry you run out there, and manage to snatch your body, and everything is great again! Or not!

The pistol is the root of so much evil, in this scenario, being in the way, ALL. THE. TIME. It causes a second death, easily, messing up both the weapon's order and the ammo too, as the uranium ammo on the dead body ends up in inventory, respecting the 10 yellow clips armed.

It might be part of the game's challenge, perhaps, to manage pistols; but think about it, one check box in settings, and no pistol/ammo on respawn. Ta da!

I wonder if the better option is to have whatever you pick up from your corpse automatically replace whatever you currently have equipped? IE, whatever weapon (and ammo) you had in the slot prior to dying the starter pistol/ammo is occupying when you pick up your corpse is automatically swapped back in. In this way, too, you can equip yourself with a few items to help you get to your corpse, then it auto switches you back to everything you had before. Additionally, it does not affect early game when you're only running around with maybe the pistol and unfortunately die and you don't have to remember to toggle a setting back and forth.

you can filter the weapons slots on your character iirc they stay after death and force the pistol into your inventory, to filter the slot just middle-click on it like you would any other item slot
