Bring back the old control system

TL;DR
Let use bind keyboard keys to mine / build actions again
What?
I haven't played Factorio in a while, so I'm not sure when or why this change was implemented, but we are no longer allowed to assign mine / build to keyboard keys since "the control has to be mouse related."
Why?
As a result, as a laptop player, I can't play on the latest Factorio versions since I can't assign the F key to build stuff, please remove this unnecessary and artificial limitation that hinders individuals from playing the way they feel the most comfortable with.
