Even on the highest settings (Very Frequent, Very Rich, Very Large) I still wish there were more resources.

A bit outside of starting-area there are normally so many resources with these settings... I suggest to wait for the next map-generator?

As Ssilk suggested it's probably best to wait until the new map generator comes out (which should be within a week or two I think) and then try again.
