Please, please, please!
We really need to get rid of cars/tanks in our vanilla train-station designs. All we need -- any chest of even width/length. Let it be 2x1 (ideally) or 2x2 or 2x6 (like train carriages). Or a long-handed stacker inserter. Or belt loader-unloader. Or allow railways not align on even tiles. But a simple chest would suffice. Or a long-handed inserter of new color (and capacity).
Every time we need container-to-container (carriage-to-carriage or train->production->train) transfer from a train, we need to skip the blueprints and put the cars manually. Do you believe that Our Hero wouldn't find a solution for a simple chest?
Or let the cars be placed in a blueprint (and removed by deconstructor). Why trains could be removed by a deconstructor and cars -- can't?
Why a simple chest must be mod-only and not in vanilla? Does it need extensive testing or complex development process?
Please?
bigger chest 2xN size (for railway blueprints) or long-handed stacker inserter.

Trains/tanks in train stations have never been a necessity. It' perfectly doable to unload a train into 1 tile chests with stack inserters.
Your use case is extremely specific, and the issues you face are the consequence of a design decision.
A such, I think you should address your need with mods, not by expecting the devs to add more stuff to vanilla.

It's really important when you start count for ups on megabases and try to load train-production-train to save ups and increase efficiency.Koub wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 9:49 am Trains/tanks in train stations have never been a necessity. It's not that important on the starter game, true, never claimed that. Still we see that like on every megabase ever.
Sure, we can use slower inserters or use belts, heavier on ups.
But the simplicity of a possible solution is not even comparable with wahat is possible in vanilla today. It is easy to find a mod. It's also easy to implement it in vanilla -- isn't it? And we'd really appreciate it.

The use case for Vanilla would be marginal. Megabasing comes far after the first rocket and probably most Megabases use mods. Enabling the player(s) to choose a set of mods tailored to their needs without overcrowding Vanilla with highly specialised items.LazyLoneLion wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:50 amIt's really important when you start count for ups on megabases and try to load train-production-train to save ups and increase efficiency.Koub wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 9:49 am Trains/tanks in train stations have never been a necessity. Besides lacking higher throughput long handed inserters is likely a design decision, encouraging better BP designs.

Ehm, no?
It's a totally different challenge to build megabases with mods. I'm (with a friend) at the moment involved in building one in vanilla.
Besides, again, an additional chest isn't very complex, and it won't ruin the game in any way, except making it easier where now people have to put cars manually.
P.S. From the starter all the problems arise from the very artificial impossibility to align railways on the tile grid (only on the even tiles instead).

Is it what you need really? If you set stations where cars stops diagonally you would be surprisingly find it is possible. Try it.
Also worth to mention. One side can have 6 inserters up to 12 items in stack maximum. Or 12 long inserters up to 3 items in stack maximum, which is only half less. Speed is also lower of course.

I know that all. I can also use splitters instead of the cars (splitters size is conveniently 2x1).Sad_Brother wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 4:26 pmIf you set stations where cars stops diagonally you would be surprisingly find it is possible. Try it.

But again, I can also use cars. It's just still less convenient than a simple chest. Probably the second to simplest entity in factorio after the raw materials. Or second to none. I can't see a reason why it doesn't exist in this world (where you can conveniently hide a dozen of locomotives in your backpack). We can have splitters in vanilla (which are intricate devices, really, with the filters and priorities and perfect input-output balancing) but can't have a one-tile bigger chest? Logic combinators could take 2x1 tiles but a chest can't?

This discussion leads to nothing. It is suggested since 6 years. It will not come into vanilla IMHO, use mods.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.
