Add a tooltip for Peaceful Mode

Post by Xystem4 »

When creating a new map, under the enemy tab every other setting has a little tooltip next to it you can hover over for more explanation, except for "Peaceful mode", which I would argue needs the most explaining.

I think the way the wiki says it would be just about perfect: "When peaceful mode is turned on, the enemies don't begin fights, only responding if the player hits them. Additionally, when a map is in peaceful mode, the enemies will not expand."

Maybe shortened down to "When turned on, the enemies don't begin fights, don't expand, and only respond if the player hits them." To keep it around the same length as the other tooltips.

Edit: The wiki apparently was incorrect and expansion isn't disabled. So Then the tooltip should be something like "When turned on enemies don't begin fights and only respond if the player attacks them".

I doubt expansion is disabled in peaceful mode as it's a separate option.

Can anyone proof it?

Anyway, ack to the suggestion.

Expansion is not disabled; I just tested in a sandbox at 16x speed.

Huh, looks like you're right. I've edited the post, and I guess I'll update the wiki too. (the fact that this isn't stated anywhere in the game just shows my point, though)

Doubting myself, I ran another test and found the bases did not send out colonists but each colony did get larger. e.g., what started out as a single spawner structure will grow to 2 structures in close proximity, etc.

Well, that actually is meant with expansion disabled.
Biters will just build new spawners around their home and don't scavange to new places.

I just ran a world for a while where I kept peaceful mode disabled, but disabled expansion. I haven't seen any colonies create new bases yet (but I might just not have been waiting long enough). I was suspecting the base growth was related to evolution, but it seems like it is tied to expansion? I'm not sure, I'm going to keep testing it.

The evolution factor lowers the base growth interval:
