I'm afraid that there are no waterproof insulators in the game yet.

If we could safely insulate the power lines, being able to place them underground would be amazing. I'd use them even if they required twice as many materials to make, at least for the inside of my base. For longer distances I'd still use above-ground power lines, simply because I want to know where my power is going.

I agree with the 'above ground, long-distance' thing

Sometimes for inserters on complicated assembly lines power lines can be tricky to place
having it in base wouldn't be a bad idea
really though
REALLY

Srs.

Those wooden poles suck :P

The planned poles with larger radius will probably also be made of iron or steel (which hopefully means more durable), and I believe the car collisions will be treated eventually.
Everybody's happy! :D

Hmm.. true, that could solve (most of) the current complications.

PS: I am not hitting the poles with the car.. I have them close to the machinery, so I hit none (or both)
I do, however, have to slow down when crossing the long-distance wiring. (That would be solved by bigger poles/pylons)
PS2: You can mouseover your car to improve your steering quality
