Not sure if this is a bug, and whether it's worth fixing, but I figured I would post it here as well.

If a station includes a 180 degree turn (with the train extending to both sides of the turn) the inserters behind the turn are off by 1:
You can still place 2x6 inserters per wagon, but you have to place them one tile to the back of what you would expect visually and of what the yellow placement hint box suggests.
Pretty obscure, so feel free to place in the "wontfix" bin

Man hover over the train stop and place the inserters according to the white borders.
Forget about the yellow hitbox instantly or you will be doomed.

The train stop boxes (like signal boxes) only go back 5 wagons, so they're not useful for longer trains, such as this example.

I'm aware of this problem, it is related to a small hack we had to do some time ago. Unfortunatelly, we are going to keep it like that ..

OK, thanks for replying! As said, it is totally obscure, so I can really understand the 'wontfix'; but I wanted to report it in case you didn't know about it.

This has been fixed. As seen below (same setup as op) the now maximum 12 white train-lenght-visualization-boxes match the wagons perfectly. The yellow selection boxes as well.

You got me there. I just realised why I got this wrong: It is directional. It only works when the rails are facing north/south.

Came to the forums to report this issue, didn't realize it was years old - any chance of it getting another look?

Crazy, as I just came to report the same thing as well a whole 1 day later. Ah well, if it's repeatable and "ain't gunna' be fixed", then I can at least plan for it!
