This seems like an entirely arbitrary limit, and kept me from fully explaining how bad my jokes are. This limit seems overly authoritarian and must be changed.

Exactly. To rationalize deleting my jokes, I need to explain why my jokes are bad, and make them even more bad by explaining them badly. Unfortunately, bad explanations of bad jokes take up a lot of characters.
