Newbie question - Images in posts

Hello everyone,
I have a question that I'm almost too emberassed to ask. But since I am new to this forum (never really used forums before for that matter) I am going to ask anyway!
When reading trough all your amazing creations and stuff, I see people posting pictures where you have to click a "+" button so it expands the big picture. I tried some stuff but I didn't get it to work like that. And I can't seem to find a post on how to do it. Yet I am sure I am not the first one with this question.
