Questions for a private multiplayer event

Hello !

I'm planning an event with a few friends/coworkers for a day of Factorio.

I'm expecting to have anywhere between 5 to 15 players.

Would there be some general recommendations/obligatons to avoid technical issues ?

Beside "getting sure that the host has a good Internet connection and a good CPU".

Is there anything more advanced we should get ready for ?

Would a dedicated serveur be "must" ?

Is there a known limitation like "over 8 players, game will crash every 5 minutes" or some other crazy unexpected behavior as such ?

Is multiplayering through Steam OK, or should we proceed in another way ?

THANKS !

In my experience you can easily host a game on a descent gaming PC and have 15 people join the game. You don't need a dedicated server for that and the game is very stable.

Depending on how good the host's internet upload speed is you could consider limiting the upload speed and upload slots a bit for new players joining to avoid taxing the players already playing.

Players can join through Steam or the in-game list of public games (just let the host add a password so it remains only for friends).

Depending on the host's internet router you might need to add a port forwarding rule to the router, otherwise people might not be able to connect.

Otherwise, have fun :)
