[LAG] Multiplayer lag

Im trying to play with a friend but it lags for both and it's annoying.

Good rigs for both.
Everything at minimum.
Internet good upload/download speed.
Small maps.

Still laggy. In singleplayer it's everything smooth no problem. What should we do?

Wait until the multiplayer is not alpha anymore. Version 0.12 or even 0.13 should be the way to go.


Seriously, the multiplayer is in an early alpha. It's buggy, lags, all that is known and accepted. That's the price you have to pay for early access games.

They addressed many desync problems in 0.11.4 if desync is what you are experiencing. There could be many more fixes needed though - the devs did a blog about the troubles of addressing desync issues this past Friday so don't get your hopes up too high.

For lag though, double check that you don't both have auto-save turned on for 2 mins. Only one player needs to auto-save and pick an interval that is helpful but not too frequent because that may be causing lag - especially if both players are auto saving.

I think you misunderstood the "latency" configuration in the options.
It should be set above the expected highest network latency.

If you set this setting too low, sure you're getting stalls.
