I searched the forums for some type of help or guide in hosting a game.

I am trying to play with my brother who is only a 15 miles from me and have plenty of bandwidth.

Is there some kind of guide to creating a game? I gave him mp internet IP and port with no success. Is there a specific game port i should be giving him?

Do I need to port forward and particular numbers?

As fair as I know, you will need to forward the port 34197 to play multiplayer.

Nobody has yet to have time to write a guide, it seems.

It's fairly straightforward in that all you really need to do is open a port via port forwarding. You can use the port given above, or make up your own -- But you'll need to edit config.ini (in %appdata%/factorio/config under Windows) for it to work. That was all the work I had to do to get the actual connecting aspect of Factorio to work.

Also, another gotcha is that the connect screen only lets you enter IPs. You can't use a hostname at all.
