YES changing the name is so Easy but still sometimes its enough to stop some bad players
even if its 0,0001 % chance to stop them! its WORTH the fight!

Still,

REPORTING THE BAD GUYS even IF they change their names can MAYBE give enough hints to find the real owner.

Yes it is important to work on this problem. I just think this especially is fruitless. Better use mods or the permission system. Names are not needed until anything happens on your server.
So sorry if I dont like your "project"/"brainchild"/"fandom"-thing here.

There are some fingers you cant get rid of. Like a certificate linked to your profile you use to login into factorio. Even if you change everything you would need to buy a new game to play on the server again. Thats what I mean with: "Only the devs can help us".

still there are MANY many more things to think over!
just having a ban system is not usable because you can even ABUSE the bansystem.
what if a user dont like another player he marked a player a griefer even if he didnt do anything

and who is going to check if this mark/report is WRONG?
and who is going for unban ....
and some people think Griefing is part of the Multiplayer!

thats why the developers dont do things right now! or focus their work on improvments in gameplay.

still its a good thing to have some names on the other hand. maybe the community wakes up someday and help with strong ideas for this problem!

Updated the thread. Sorry for disappearing.

Also, removed the suspected griefers list and am currently making a banlist for the people on this list.

We have gone from 10 people on the list to 32.

OK, so I host a little server for my own enjoyment and for anyone else who wants to hop on and relax. Today i logged in, to see someone had came through researched rocketry and decided to cause havok while no one was around. Now i knew this would happen eventually as they say "some people just want to watch the world burn". Of course i promptly perma-banned the player and will do the same to anyone else that joins with the intent to ruin someone else's work. I'll also keep a list of griefers that i come across, so others know to watch out for them.

There's unfortunately not much that can be done. having a public unprotected server is like having your house with doors opened 24/7. You might be surprised one day you've been robbed. I wouldn't.

Killed himself many times in the server log, base has multiple Nuke craters in all of its important infrastructure. Clearly not an accident.

is this the ban list for factorio one pulic servers? becuase i'm currently blocked from all of them, and i'm not a griefer.i think i was afk once then blocked
who i need to contact to unban me? after how muck time i get ubaned?

Is it possible to snapshot the game state periodically? That, especially in combination with a filesystem that supports snapshots, would do a lot to mitigate the stupid harm these people can cause. You could snapshot every 5 minutes or so, and roll back to any previous state you please.

Tonight I have seen several games ruined by a troll named jacobbatt.

I saw him ruin a game at the weekend too.

Can he be temp banned or something to stop this happening in future?

Joined this server and saw it had no power and all of the turbines, fluid tanks, etc had been left on the edge of the base for biters to destroy. Items were all placed by Hadi.

Griefing Bats92 server using grenades and deconstruction planner to destroy base. I left and returned after an hour and he rejoined immediately.

Joined server, no greeting, I followed him on the map zoomed in. Instantly took almost our entire supply of blue circuits, red circuits and green circuits, messed up our sulphuric acid production piping, and removed a roboport vital for picking up produced goods. Dropped connection the second I asked him what he was doing.

He was acting weird, then drove this string of trains around on the wrong side of the tracks, then when I went AFK, he deconstructed the entire world and started shooting me.
