Hi,

I want to start a headless server, but also play at the same time. I don't mind starting a VM if needed, but can I start a headless server and play both with my own same steam account?

Yes, you can run a headless server AND the game at the same time and even on the same machine.

The headless server don't check your steam Account.

Thanks! I tried it, launched the headless via the EXE like this:

d:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Factorio\bin\x64>Factorio.exe --start-server __clean

and than when I went to Steam to try and launch the game, I got this error:

You should mention, that the headless server which steambuyers can use at the moment is only the free linux-version on the factorio-page.

But the Devs are working on it.

He shouldn't because it's not true. All Factorio binaries, including the Steam ones, come with headless server functionality.

This sounds like you didn't change your write-data. See this post for how to do that.
